Arsenal are actively looking to strengthen their options in attack after a season where they struggled for goals. They have scored 17 fewer goals than Premier League champions Liverpool.
Their season derailed when two frontline forwards, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, were sidelined with injuries. Interestingly, despite being injured in February, Havertz remains Arsenal’s top goalscorer this season with 15 goals.
Therefore, the Gunners have shortlisted many forwards ahead of the summer transfer window. While they need a proper goalscoring striker upfront, they are also in search of wingers who can share the burden of scoring goals.
The North London outfit have been monitoring Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams for a couple of years. His performances in the 2024 European Championship raised his stocks among many European clubs.
In recent months, Arsenal have gained a lot of momentum on the 22-year-old winger. However, as per reports on Touchline, the Spanish winger has already started his house hunt in London as he is desperate to move to the Premier League.
Reports in Spain suggest that Arsenal are close to securing two of Barcelona’s top targets this summer – Williams and Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres.

How will Williams fit into Arteta’s system at Arsenal?
Williams is known for his flair, dribbling and his ability to take-on defenders on the left flank. He is right-footed, so playing on the left helps him to cut inside and take shots on goal.
While he hasn’t been at his best in the 2024/25 campaign, his talent is undeniable. He was sensational in the 2024 Euros, where he paired up with Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and helped Spain win the continental tournament.
If he moves to North London, he will be one of the options on the left flank, along with Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard. With injuries pegging them back every season, Arteta is looking for depth in every position this term.
He has netted 10 goals and provided seven assists in 42 appearances this season across competitions. As per FBref, he has registered 5.17 shot-creating actions, 5.77 progressive carries and 3.30 successful take-ons per 90 minutes.
Apart from Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea are also interested in signing the Spanish international. However, as per reports, the Gunners are front runners in the pursuit of the 22-year-old.
