Arsenal may finally have the green light to go after their top striker target — and it’s coming straight from the fine print.
The Gunners are pushing hard to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP, and a key clause in the Swedish forward’s contract could now help seal the deal.
Reports in Portugal (via A Bola) say that from July 1, any €60 million ($64.3m) bid Sporting reject would cost the club €6 million in agent fees.
For a team looking to balance the books, that’s the kind of extra charge that could turn a firm “no” into a quick “maybe.”
Arsenal are said to be ready to match that €60m figure, which could shift the momentum fast. The club has been chasing a new No. 9 all summer.
They were interested in Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, but talks hit a wall. Now, with the season approaching — and a mouthwatering opener against Manchester United on August 17 — Mikel Arteta wants his striker in place soon.

Sporting have made it clear they don’t want to sell Gyokeres cheap. Their president, Frederico Varandas, recently stated: “Sporting does not need to sell Gyokeres… Viktor will not leave for €60+€10 million.”
The club wants closer to €80m and could hold firm unless the clause becomes too costly to ignore.
Other clubs in race to sign Viktor Gyokeres
Arsenal aren’t alone in the hunt. Manchester United are still monitoring the situation, and Chelsea have also been linked in the past.
But with Arsenal showing clear intent and ready to meet the €60m figure, others might need to act fast or fall behind.
Interestingly, Sporting’s recent deal with Crystal Palace for defender Ousmane Diomande, worth around €55m, means they are under less pressure to sell Gyokeres. That could make negotiations tricky, even with the clause now in play.
Still, if Arsenal can strike now, they might just catch Sporting offside — and finally land the striker who can lead their line.
