Arsenal are preparing for a big summer transfer window. They have a number of potential players shortlisted but in order to bring in players, the North London outfit will need to make some player sales as well.
The Gunners will need to improve their squad ahead of next season if they want to break out from this “always the bridesmaid” jinx in the Premier League. They are keen to win the league title and for that they are ready to bring in reinforcements in all departments.
One of Mikel Arteta’s primary targets this season seems to be Real Sociedad star midfielder Martin Zubimendi. The Spanish international has been with La Real since childhood and if this move happens, this will be the first time he will move out of Spain.
The Spaniard has attracted interest from many clubs mainly due to his qualities as a tempo controller and defensive midfielder. He is an excellent passer and is known for his ability to intercept and break up plays in the heart of the midfield.
With Thomas Partey and Jorginho leaving the Emirates this summer, Zubimendi could be the ideal replacement for them as he brings stability and control in the midfield.
With clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester United also linked with the 26-year-old midfield maestro, Arsenal understand it will be a massive coup for them to land the player this summer.

As of now, the Gunners could be ahead of the competition as they have already expressed willingness to pay the £52 million release clause to lure the Spaniard away from Spain to North London.
However, this is not the only big signing that could happen for Arsenal. There are multiple players lined up and Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta will need to make some big decisions during the transfer window.
Arsenal are all set to sell this in-form midfielder to make room for Zubimendi
Arteta unleashed Ethan Nwaneri this season and the youngster has done really well deputising for Bukayo Saka when he was out injured. Nwaneri, who predominantly is an attacking midfielder, has settled himself nicely on the right flank.
His rise through the ranks means Arsenal may have to take a decision on loanee Fabio Vieira, who has been breathing fire at FC Porto. The Portuguese midfielder joined the Gunners in 2022 from Porto.
While the 24-year-old showed plenty of potential, he struggled for gametime in a stacked Arsenal midfield.. Therefore he was loaned out to his former team FC Porto. While the Portuguese outfit would like to bring him back, his loan contract doesn’t have an ‘option to buy’ clause.
Previously the team management believed Vieira would return to the Emirates as more matured and developed player, but now according to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Arsenal are actively looking to sell the Portuguese in an attempt to increase their own transfer funds.
As per FourFourTwo, Nwaneri’s rise as a versatile midfield convinced Arteta that there’s no room for Vieira left in the team. The 17-year-old has been sensational for the Gunners and his ability to play wide and also a central creative outlet, makes him an unique talent.
Vieira has netted four goals and three assists this season in 21 matches in the Liga Portugal. The former FC Porto youth graduate’s current form suggests that there won’t be any shortage of suitors for him in the summer if Arsenal eventually look to put him on sale.
