Arsenal legend Thierry Henry slams Pep Guardiola’s transfer decisions as Man City struggle for goals

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has raised concerns about Pep Guardiola’s transfer decisions following Manchester City’s recent struggles in front of goal.

After City’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United, questions are being asked about their squad depth and form as they now sit nine points behind Liverpool in the title race.

This season, City’s once-unmatched attacking power has taken a dip. Erling Haaland, while still delivering, is facing more criticism for missed chances.

Meanwhile, the departures of key players like Riyad Mahrez and Cole Palmer have left a visible void.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry believes Guardiola’s decisions to let those players go without proper replacements are starting to hurt the team.

Thierry Henry criticizes City’s lack of depth

Speaking on Sky Sports (Monday Night Football), Henry didn’t hold back. He said, “We’re allowed to say it. This is the first time we can challenge Pep’s decisions. Letting Mahrez, Palmer, and even Julian Alvarez go doesn’t make sense. Where are their goals now? Haaland is still scoring, but he’s missing chances too – like he always has. The difference is, there’s no one else to cover.”

Henry also pointed to Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan. City have missed De Bruyne’s creativity this season due to injury, while Gundogan – once a key goal-scorer – hasn’t been the same since returning.

Despite his concerns, Henry defended Guardiola’s legacy and leadership. “Let’s not criticize Pep too much. He’s been incredible for so long. This is the first real slump he’s had, and you can bet he’ll fix it. He’s tough on his team when they win, and he supports them when they’re down. That’s what makes him special.”

Guardiola now faces a critical challenge as City head to Aston Villa this weekend. With no midweek matches, the team has time to regroup. For Guardiola, it’s an opportunity to prove why City are still the Premier League’s team to beat.
