Arsenal initiate contract talks with forward amid Saudi interest

Arsenal are looking to rebuild their team as Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta aim to pose a fresh challenge for the Premier League next season.

While a key part of their rebuild revolves around multiple incoming players in the summer transfer window, they are also actively looking to renew contracts with players they want to keep.

According to reports in the Daily Mail, the Gunners have initiated talks with Leandro Trossard and are willing to offer him a long-term contract. His current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2026 with the club having an option to extend it by another year till 2027.

But the reports suggest that Arsenal are looking to offer him an extension till 2029. The versatile forward, who can also chip in as an attacking midfielder, has impressed Arteta and the Spaniard wants to keep him in his plans for the near future.

Trossard has been a key figure in this Gunners roster as he featured in 35 league games, while starting in 26 of them.

He provides Arteta with great tactical flexibility in different positions in attack and creativity in wide areas. Also, his fitness level and work ethic make him a crucial part of this roster, especially in a season where multiple players were ruled out due to injuries.

Leandro Trossard is keeping his options open

Arteta and the Arsenal team management acknowledges his important in their system and are reportedly willing to offer a big contract. However, the reports also suggest that if Trossard wants to leave the club, they won’t stand in his way.

Reportedly, Saudi Pro League clubs are interested in the 30-year-old. Saudi League leaders Al-Ittihad had made an offer of around £25 million, which was rejected by the North Londoners last summer.

Overall, it is a crucial juncture in Trossard’s career as this may be his last chance to earn a lucrative offer if he decides to move to Saudi Arabia.

On the other hand, he can be one of the senior players in Arteta’s system as he aims to build a team that can challenge for the league title. However, the Gunners are planning to reinforce their forwardline, which means Trossard will be restricted to a rotational role.

The Belgian forward joined Arsenal in January 2023 for £27 million from Brighton. Since then, he has featured in 121 matches, scoring 28 goals. This season has been a productive one for him with 10 goals and eight assists from 53 appearances for the club across competitions.
