Arsenal are in talks to sign highly-rated Genk midfielder Konstantinos Karetsas in a deal that could rise to €45 million ($51m) including bonuses, according to reports in Greece.
The 17-year-old, widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in European football, has been on the radar of several elite clubs for several months.
His standout performances in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League have drawn attention across the continent, but it was his composed display for Greece in their 3-0 win over Scotland in Glasgow earlier this year that significantly boosted his stock.
Gunners sporting director Andrea Berta has been instrumental in progressing talks and already enjoys a strong working relationship with Karetsas’ agent, the same representative who oversaw Albert Sambi Lokonga’s move to north London in 2021.
As per the Athenian-Macedonian news agency, Arsenal are looking to complete the transfer this summer but allow Karetsas to remain on loan at Genk for the 2025/26 season. The Gunners believe that continued first-team football in Belgium will aid the midfielder’s development and ensure he arrives in London ready to compete at the highest level by the summer of 2026.
Should the deal go through for the reported fee, Karetsas would become the most expensive Greek footballer in history, surpassing the €36 million ($41m) Napoli paid Roma for Kostas Manolas in 2019.

Karetsas, who has drawn comparisons with a young Cesc Fabregas for his technical ability and mature decision-making in midfield, has also been monitored by the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
Meanwhile, the Gunners continue talks with RB Leipzig over the signing of Benjamin Sesko.
Sesko, 22, has emerged as a key target for Arteta, who is keen to add firepower to his frontline after missing out on the Premier League title for two consecutive seasons.
The Slovenian international scored 21 goals in all competitions last season and is viewed by the Arsenal hierarchy as a long-term solution through the middle.
Sporting director Berta is also speaking with Thomas Partey over a potential one-year contract extension, with Barcelona and Saudi clubs monitoring the midfielder’s situation.
