Arsenal enter the race with Premier League rivals over the pursuit of Ajax defender

This will be a defining transfer window for Arsenal after finishing second for the third consecutive Premier League campaign. The management are running out of patience with Mikel Arteta as the Gunners last won a silverware five years ago.

So, they need reinforcements to push the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League crown next season. The North Londoners are focused on bringing attacking players, especially a striker and a winger as they are keen to bolster their attack.

However, the Gunners will reportedly make sales to free up some funds and therefore they are also looking to add another versatile defender to their defence to provide more stability. As per reports from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have started monitoring Ajax left-back Jorrel Hato.

The Dutch international has been on the radar of multiple Premier League clubs like Chelsea, Newcastle United, Liverpool and now Arsenal. So, it will be tough for the Gunners to fend off so much competition and land the versatile defender at Emirates.

The reports also suggest that Arsenal and Chelsea have identified Hato as their priority target after the lost out the race for Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid. The Gunners have reportedly made a phone call to know more about the 19-year-old defender’s situation at Ajax.

While Arsenal are getting linked with several players in the transfer window, they are yet to announce the arrival of any player. However, they are close to wrap up the deals of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi.

What is Hato’s contract situation with Ajax?

Hato has shown great growth and development at Ajax and Arsenal have been reportedly monitoring him for the last few years and believe that the youngster has the capability to become a generational talent.

Predominantly, a left-back, Hato can also slot in as a centre-back with aplomb something Arteta is looking for in his defenders. But he has mostly featured on the left for Ajax last season.

In the past, Liverpool have been linked with the Dutch youngster and then Ajax had slapped a £40 million asking fee for Hato. But since then, Liverpool have made progress in their pursuit of Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez.

But it remains to be seen how much Ajax demand for their academy graduate who has the capability to become one of the best defenders in Europe in his position. He has recently extended his contract with Ajax and now his current contract runs until 2028. Therefore, it would be a tough task for Arsenal to lure him away to North London.

Hato has rose through the ranks from the Ajax academy and made his senior debut in 2023 and since then has featured in 111 matches for the club, registering 13 goal involvements.
