Arne Slot issues injury update on Liverpool newcomer

Liverpool managed a win in their opening Premier League match against Bournemouth, prevailing 4-2 after an Antoine Semenyo brace pulled the Cherries level.

Arne Slot gave Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez their Premier League debuts for the Reds.

Each newcomer impressed, with Ekitike scoring the opening goal.

After the match, Slot gave a worrying update on one of the Premier League debutants.

Which Liverpool player suffered an injury in the opener?

Speaking after the game, Slot opened up about Frimpong’s substitution and said, “It wasn’t out of luxury. Jeremie Frimpong felt his hamstring at half-time and made a lot of sprints.”

Frimpong showed off his pace down the right-hand side, but it might have cost the Dutch international.

He was doing quite well, but our other full-back, Conor Bradley, is already injured with a hamstring injury, so you don’t want to take the risk of losing another full-back.

You could argue, why don’t you play Joe Gomez there, but he only had two sessions in pre-season and could only play half an hour, so we started with Wataru Endo and our left full-back Milos Kerkez.”

Frimpong was subbed off around the hour mark, but it remains to be seen if any extensive damage was done or whether he’ll miss any time.

Liverpool will take on Newcastle on the 25th of August, giving Frimpong nine days of rest, should he need it.
