The Las Vegas Raiders notched their first victory in months on Sunday, beating the Jacksonville Jaguars 19-14 in what was one of the ugliest games of the Week 16 schedule.
However, the win came at a cost, as the Raiders fell from No. 1 to No. 6 in the 2025 NFL Draft order, according to Tankathon, which is obviously bad news for Las Vegas’ hopes of landing one of the best quarterbacks in next year’s class.
Following the game, Raiders fans were understandably frustrated about what was a meaningless win that does nothing to help the future of the franchise. On Monday, head coach Antonio Pierce shared his thoughts on the draft pick situation, and it’s clear he doesn’t care.
“No comment,” Pierce said when asked about frustrated Raiders fans, per ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez. “We don’t do this to lose. We don’t do this for anybody’s fantasy football team. Don’t do this for anybody’s draft projections. None of that sh** matters to us.
“What matters is winning, and that’s all we want to do.”
Pierce’s stance is understandable given the fact that he’s probably coaching for his job at this point and may not be back in 2025, anyway.
That said, the Raiders are now in a much worse spot if they want to grab one of the top two quarterbacks in next years draft, which right now looks like Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.
Sanders in particular has been a popular name among Raiders fans, and Sanders has dropped more than enough hints to know he has interest in Las Vegas.
If things stay the way they are now, the Raiders will have to trade up in order to get one of the two aforementioned players to hopefully solve what has been a major issue for years now.
The New York Giants (No. 1) and Tennessee Titans (No. 4) are going to be in the market for a quarterback, and the Cleveland Browns (No. 5) could be in the same boat, also. The Raiders will have to target the Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 3) and New England Patriots (No. 2) for a trade up, as neither team figures to have interest in selecting a quarterback.
