As the dust settles on the blockbuster trade of All-NBA first teamers Anthony Davis and Luka Doncic, the implications of the swap are becoming more clear.
The trade was seismic for a multitude of reasons, many of which revolved around Doncic, a 25-year old supernova who looks destined to become one of the sport’s greatest-ever talents.
Davis’ departure from the Lakers is notable as well. Not only is the soon-to-be 32-year old one of the league’s finest stars — we’re a little less than four years removed from the 6-11 force being named to the league’s 75th anniversary team — but he also powered Los Angeles to fifth place in the West so far this season. He stepped up as the team’s marquee player, taking the mantle from LeBron James.
Davis waited a few days to issue a response to the move. On Monday, he gave his first public remarks on the trade. Here’s what you need to know.
