Andy Reid has enjoyed an eventful tenure as Chiefs head coach. Hired in 2013, the veteran taskmaster has a trio of Lombardi Trophies to his name. He also has more than 140 wins in red-and-gold, posting a win rate that exceeds 70 percent. Of the five coaches to break the 70-percent win rate over a career, only one — Nick Sirianni — has not been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Reid — who boasts a 65.1-percent win rate throughout his career (19th-best mark in league history) — will be sporting a gold jacket sooner rather than later.
Still, it’s hard to imagine an event being more frenzied — and harrowing — than the one which befell him on May 4, 2024. Reid, trawling around his coaching office in the wee hours of the night, was greeted with a frightening sight: shattered glass from a wayward bullet.
Here’s what you need to know about the newly unearthed report.

Andy Reid gun incident, explained
A bullet shattered through glass at Kansas City’s practice facility on May 4, 2024, creating a hole between the window and the blinds of an office Reid, according to The Kansas City Star. The 67-year-old wasn’t struck or injured by the bullet, but it lodged itself into a wall between Reid’s window and entry door — just 15 feet from Reid’s desk.
Two other bullets also struck the building — one on the third floor, the other in an outdoor air conditioning unit. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to Kansas City Police Department spokesperson Capt. Jacob Becchina. It is being investigated as an aggravated assault.
“There is no indication this was a targeted incident at any person or organization,” Becchina said.
The gunfire reportedly occurred shortly after midnight on May 4. Officers coalesced with overnight security, who revealed that someone “heard a noise and observed what appeared to be a bullet hole in a window,” per The Star.
Reid now works in an office protected by bulletproof glass. The safety measure was implemented shortly after the incident. The Chiefs also constructed perimeter fencing around the side’s three practice fields and employ a security guard on site 24 hours per day.
Kansas City’s practice facility is located in the Harry S. Truman Sports Complex, a glistening structure that sits between the Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium and Kaufman Stadium, home of the Royals. Reid’s office is located on the second floor of the complex. Also housed within the compound’s walls are the Chiefs’ front-office staff and corporate offices.
According to the Kansas City Star, much of Kansas City’s roster was unaware of the incident. Reid didn’t seem too fazed after, as he spearheaded another Chiefs trot to the Super Bowl, although they would fall to the Eagles to dash hopes for a three-peat.
