Andrei Svechnikov hat trick: Hurricanes star leads team to Game 4 win over Devils with scoring outburst

The Hurricanes are on the verge of the second round of the playoffs thanks to a massive performance from Andrei Svechnikov on Sunday.

The 25-year-old right wing put up a hat trick against the Devils in Game 4 of the first-round playoff series, helping Carolina coast to a 5-2 victory and take a 3-1 series lead.

For Svechnikov, it was his second career playoff hat trick.

In just over 15 minutes, Svechnikov found the back of the net three times, which was more than enough to help Carolina win Game 4.

Per StatMuse, Svechnikov has three career hat tricks in the regular season; two came in the 2022-23 season and another came in 2023-24. He also had one career hat trick in the postseason prior to Sunday.

Andrei Svechnikov hat trick vs. Devils

Svechnikov’s first goal came in the opening minutes, connecting on a turnaround shot that gave the Hurricanes an early advantage.

Early in the second period, Svechnikov was back at it, taking assists from Seth Jarvis and Sebastian Aho for a close-range score.

To complete the hat trick, Svechnikov took advantage of an empty net, skating out in front of everybody else to notch his second career postseason hat trick and make it 5-2.

Hurricanes playoff hat tricks

There have been just two playoff hat tricks in the history of the Hurricanes. Svechnikov has both of them.

Back in 2020, he found the back of the net three times in a 4-1 win over the Rangers in Game 2 of the best-of-five Stanley Cup Qualifiers. On Sunday, he did it again, leading Carolina to another playoff win with his efforts.
