Could Mike Evans’ days with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers be coming to a close? Evans has spent his entire 11-year NFL career with the Buccaneers, but his days in Tampa Bay could be numbered.
JoeBucsFan notes that Evans is preparing to enter the final year of his deal, and with the six-time Pro Bowler turning 32 years old this August, that could spell some trouble for his future with the Buccaneers.
“This season could be the last one where a Super Bowl window is open for the Bucs,” JoeBucsFan wrote. “That’s because Mike Evans, 32, is in the final year of his contract.”
Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Evans is a goner. The star wide receiver could always opt to re-sign with Tampa Bay next offseason, but there may only be so much money the Bucs would be able to offer him, and another contender could swoop in and steal him.
“Well, let’s think about this: If Evans has yet another 1,000-yard receiving season, somebody will throw cash at him,” JoeBucsFan continued. “If a team (allegedly) was willing to back up a Brink’s truck for Chris Godwin (currently damaged goods) what do you think a healthy Evans would pull?”
Evans may be aging, but he was still very good in 2024, catching 74 passes for 1,004 yards and 11 touchdowns in 14 games. He has reached over 1,000 yards in each of his 11 NFL campaigns, a league record. If he posts similar production in 2025, you can bet that upper echelon clubs will be lining up to sign him to a short-term deal.
On the plus side, Evans has shown a strong affinity for the Buccaneers organization, and the franchise clearly does a great job keeping its players happy. But if it gets to a point where the former first-round pick feels he would be more likely to win another Super Bowl elsewhere, it may push him to leave.
The word “another” is a big one there, as Evans has already won a championship in Tampa. Perhaps the fact that he already has a ring would make it less likely that he departs, but it’s something that can never be discounted.
