Alexis Mac Allister has played a crucial role in Arne Slot’s first campaign in charge at Liverpool.
The Argentina international has built on a strong debut 2023/24 season under Jurgen Klopp to become a mainstay of Slot’s midfield alongside Dutch star Ryan Gravenberch.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion playmaker has featured in 32 of Liverpool’s 33 Premier League games so far this season – including 29 starts – as the Reds close in on the EPL title.
His impressive form at the heart of Slot’s engine room has revived long-standing transfer links to La Liga with Real Madrid rumoured to have been interested in a move prior to his 2023 exit from the AMEX Stadium.
Mac Allister is under contract on Merseyside until 2028, with a expected transfer value in the region of £75m [$100m], and Slot is under no pressure from the Reds ownership to consider a sale.
However, as part of an interview with Argentinian outlet TyC Sports, Mac Allister firmly addressed the rumours and indicated his immediate future lies with Liverpool.

“I have read the rumours and the news has reached me,” he said.
“But the important thing is the present, no matter how much the club loves me, if I play poorly this weekend, they’ll lose interest.
“I’m fine at Liverpool and I don’t have any need [to leave]. I have a lot of respect for the club and I don’t think it’s necessary to talk about other teams.
“I live a little further away [from the city], so there are supporters who greet you with respect, but in the city they are more passionate. The club as an institution is like a family. Everything can be summed up in one sentence: You’ll never walk alone.
“The moment that anthem starts at Anfield, it’s very strong. It’s one of the most beautiful. Until it finishes playing, the match does not start.”
Liverpool fans will be relieved to hear Mac Allister’s comment on not wanting to discuss other teams and his happiness at Liverpool, but his remark on the club ‘losing interest’, if his form dips will keep the future exit door open.
Real Madrid are looking to bolster their squad this summer, but midfield is not a primary focus, with the Spanish giants targeting a host of defenders as part of a rebuild at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
