Scottie Scheffler’s victory at Royal Portrush added a fourth major title to his name and brought him one step closer to the career grand slam. But when the press microphones came out, his focus wasn’t on trophies, stats, or comparisons. It was on his home life.
Scheffler keeps focus on family after Open win and career milestone
The 29-year-old took The Open by four strokes over Harris English, but instead of breaking down each round, Scheffler reflected on family, fatherhood, and faith.
“My family and faith are what matter most,” he said. “Golf is what I do, but it’s not who I am. I’m just a regular guy who happens to shoot lower scores once in a while.”
Even with fans and fellow pros comparing him to Tiger Woods, Scheffler kept perspective. “Tiger’s got 15 majors. I’ve got four,” he said. “He’s in a league of his own. I grew up watching him and learning from him.”

He spoke softly but clearly, giving credit to the things that ground him. “Winning the Open is incredible,” he said, “but it doesn’t fill everything inside you. That kind of joy doesn’t come from trophies.”
At one point, Scheffler stood with the Claret Jug in one hand and his 14-month-old son Bennett in the other. “He has no idea what’s going on,” Scheffler said, smiling. “But he’s already got a toy club. That’s fun to see.”
For Scheffler, the biggest moment of the day came later, when he packed up, headed home, to be with Meredith and Bennett again.
