There has still been no decision in regards to the proposed match between Villarreal and FC Barcelona in Miami this December. La Liga is willing to make history in having this match played abroad, making it the first league game to be played in America.
Many neutral fans are against this idea despite the La Liga president, Javier Tebas, being excited and optimistic about having the match played abroad. Others who are in favor of this match in Miami are the Villarreal president and a few Villarreal players.
Real Madrid were clear in their statement of being against this match in the United States and believe it shouldn’t happen. La Liga is currently waiting on FIFA and UEFA to approve the match in December.
Real Madrid is not alone in publishing a statement against the idea of the Villarreal vs Barcelona game in Miami, as the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE/ Asociación de Futbolistas Españoles).
AFE’s statement on Villarreal vs FC Barcelona in Miami
AFE’s latest statement could be another blow for Villarreal, FC Barcelona, and La Liga in terms of organizing the match between the two clubs in the United States this December.
The statement suggests what Real Madrid’s statement stated, which involved many players not knowing about these plans that are proposed to take place this season.
AFE: “They have not spoken with the players or provided information. It’s a lack of respect towards footballers. We are united. We want respect and transparency.”
With another statement complaining about this proposed match, there is more confidence among neutral football fans that the game will no longer be played in the United States this year.
Javier Tebas was optimistic that a La Liga game would be played abroad this season, and many believe the league president will attempt to have a league game abroad once again.
