AFC exec believes Patriots would be ‘foolish’ not to consider making this massive trade

The New England Patriots are entering this offseason with needs all over their roster, but wide receiver should be near the top of the list.

At this point, JaQuae Jackson, an exclusive-rights free agent, is the only member of New England’s receiver group from 2024 who is expected to hit the market.

Kendrick Bourne, Ja’Lynn Polk, Javon Baker, Kayshon Boutte, Demario Douglas and John Jiles are all under contract for the 2025 season, but considering the group’s limited ability, New England should be trying to upgrade at the position in the coming months.

With that, one player they should target is Los Angeles Rams wideout Cooper Kupp, who is expected to be traded this offseason, and according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler an AFC executive said that the Patriots would be “foolish” not to consider putting together a trade package for the Super Bowl MVP.

Kupp, 31, played collegiately at Eastern Washington (alongside Bourne) and was a third-round pick of the Rams in 2017.

In his eight seasons, Kupp has recorded 634 receptions for 7,776 yards and 57 touchdowns, while earning All-Pro, Pro Bowl and Offensive Player of the Year honors once (2021).

New England desperately needs wide receiver help this offseason, and Kupp’s veteran presence would certainly be welcomed in a locker room looking for leaders. However, the one question about him is his durability, as he’s missed 18 games over the last three seasons.

At 31 years old, Kupp should be slowing down and could miss more time, so the Patriots must determine whether the price (draft compensation and $20 million in 2025 and $19.85 million in 2026) is worth it.
