Rising British boxing star Adam Azim is determined to make a statement when he tops the bill at Wembley Arena against former IBF super lightweight champion Sergey Lipinets on Saturday night.
Azim (12-0, 9 KOs) is on a run of three straight stoppage wins and was in imperious form when he battered Ohara Davies to an eighth-round defeat last October.
Experienced Kazakh fighter Lipinets (18-3-1, 13 KOs), whose two most notable defeats have come against Mikey Garcia and Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, represents another step up in class.
“I believe I can beat him. He’s an amazing fighter. He’s fought the likes of Boots and Mikey Garcia, but he hasn’t faced someone like me,” Azim told Boxing News.

There was drama at Friday’s weigh-in when both fighters came in at a fraction over the 10-stone limit. Azim and Lipinets were able to shed the required two ounces and half a pound respectively to satisfy British Boxing Board of Control rules, and we have a fight.

After domestic rival Dalton Smith burnished his own unblemished record with a one-round blowout against overmatched Frenchman Walid Ouizza to lift Azim’s old European title last weekend, the 22-year-old will want to respond with authority against a far higher-calibre foe.
The 35-year-old Lipinets claimed a British scalp last time out when he won a unanimous decision over Robbie Davies Jr. in May, flooring the Liverpudlian three times in Florida.
