Tired of waiting on the Aaron Rodgers saga? Well, you aren’t alone, as the entire NFL world has grown tired of the free-agent waiting game we’re still in with one of the most controversial players in the league.
Rodgers has been linked to three teams in the process, with the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers being the most talked about overall. However, the Minnesota Vikings appear to be considering him, also.
As this situation drags on, Jack Aaron of Last Word on Sports predicts that Rodgers will ultimately land with the Steelers when it’s all said and done.
Aaron Rodgers prediction
“The legendary gunslinger is still available and by far the top option on the market,” Aaron wrote. “The end of the 2024 season showed he still has some gas left in the tank, even if he isn’t playing in MVP form. Giving Aaron Rodgers a quality offensive line and productive weapons could yield surprisingly positive results in 2025. That’s exactly what the Steelers have done recently, upgrading the offensive line in the 2024 NFL draft and acquiring star receiver D.K. Metcalf while making sure he’s there for the long haul. Only a quarterback with a strong personality can handle two brash personalities like Metcalf and George Pickens. Furthermore, those two need someone throwing them the ball that they respect; enter Rodgers.”
The Steelers sported Justin Fields and Russell Wilson under center last season, but Fields left for the New York Jets in free agency, and the more time passes, the less it seems Pittsburgh is interested in a reunion with Wilson.
After raising his level of play down the stretch last season, it’s quite clear Rodgers can be an upgrade over both.
He’ll also have a better supporting cast thanks to Pittsburgh pulling off a huge trade for DK Metcalf, which now gives whoever is under center for the Steelers one of the best one-two punches in the NFL with George Pickens on the other side.
Of his three options, the Steelers offer Rodgers the second-best chance to win a Super Bowl. We would put the Vikings ahead of Pittsburgh given their better all-around roster. The Giants are a distant third.
The problem for the Vikings is that they risk alienating the guy they picked to be their franchise quarterback in 2024, J.J. McCarthy, if they sign Rodgers and start him over the sophomore signal-caller.
But we wouldn’t blame Minnesota for going that route. After all, the team is coming off a 14-3 season and has a good enough roster to compete for big things. Rodgers could be the missing piece to put Minnesota over the top, while McCarthy is the definition of a total wild card after not playing at all last season.
At the end of the day, we agree with Aaron and think that Rodgers will end up in Pittsburgh, even though he probably prefers the Vikings.
