Aaron Rodgers will be on a new team in 2025, as the veteran quarterback and the New York Jets are set to part ways once the new league year begins. Rodgers missed the entire 2023 season due to a torn Achilles, but started all 17 games for New York in 2024, tossing 28 touchdowns to 11 interceptions with a 5-12 record. Releasing the former MVP will save the franchise $9.5 million in cap space.
With Rodgers set to leave the Jets, wide receiver Davante Adams will likely be out the door. New York would save $36.2 million by cutting Adams with a post-June 1st designation, and the veteran receiver was only traded to the Jets because of Rodgers being the starting quarterback.
Rodgers and Adams are still on the roster, but with the expectation that they will both be released, New York Daily News’ Pat Leonard reported on Tuesday that Rodgers preferred free agency destination is the Los Angeles Rams, and the ten-time Pro Bowler would also bring Adams with him to Los Angeles.
“Sources tell the Daily News that Aaron Rodgers prefers to play for the Rams and that the outgoing Jets QB would bring Davante Adams with him once the Jets receiver becomes a free agent. That can only happen if Matthew Stafford gets traded,” Leonard posted on X.

As Leonard stated, this scenario only transpires if Matthew Stafford is traded. The Rams hope to retain the two-time Pro Bowler, but a deal must be worked out between both sides for that to come to fruition, as the star quarterback has little guaranteed money left on his contract. Los Angeles has given Stafford and his camp permission to speak with other teams about what a potential trade and a new deal could look like.
If Stafford is traded, replacing him with Rodgers and also bringing in Adams to replace Cooper Kupp, who is expected to get traded this offseason, would be a savvy move by a Rams organization that wants to win now.
