Aaron Rodgers already impressed with Will Howard, plans on mentoring Steelers rookie

The Pittsburgh Steelers kicked off mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, and Aaron Rodgers was in attendance and practiced with the team. The veteran quarterback signed a one-year deal with the Steelers over the weekend after a lengthy wait and will serve as Mike Tomlin’s starting signal-caller for the 2025 season.

The signing of Rodgers bolsters one of Pittsburgh’s most pressing needs and also gives rookie quarterback Will Howard the opportunity to sit and learn from a future Hall of Famer.

Howard was drafted in the sixth round of April’s draft, and though he was a Day 3 pick, he has quickly caught the attention of his coaches and teammates, including Rodgers.

After practice on Tuesday, Rodgers had only good things to say about Howard and also added that he will help the rookie signal-caller as much as possible.

“Will’s a good kid. Thought he looked good today. I’m gonna be with him every single day and every single meeting. I’m gonna help him out as much as I can,” Rodgers on Howard after the opening practice of mandatory minicamp.

Rodgers’ willingness to mentor Howard is very refreshing to see, as the Ohio State product could be the 41-year-old’s eventual replacement in Pittsburgh. Howard has the arm talent and frame to be a successful NFL quarterback, but learning how to be a professional from Rodgers will speed up his development.

As a sixth-round pick, the odds are still stacked against Howard, but the 23-year-old will learn a lot from being in the same position room as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
