Cowboys owner Jerry Jones isn’t sounding as confident about a Micah Parsons contract extension.
Speaking with Yahoo’s Jori Epstein on Wednesday, Jones revealed that he hasn’t even talked with Parsons in a while.
“I haven’t talked with him in about four or five weeks, and of course, that’ll be necessary if he’s going to get a contract,” Jones said.
They haven’t even talked? Sure, it’s a two-way street, but seems like you’d want to talk to your defensive superstar whenever possible to try to get this deal done.
Then Jones clarified in a classic owner statement to serve as a reminder that Parsons wasn’t a free agent and still had an obligation to Dallas.
“But he’s got a contract,” Jones said. “That’s the point. Be sure and clear about that.”

Parsons, 25, has had 12 or more sacks in all four of his NFL seasons out of Penn State.
He’s entering the final year of his rookie contract, set to earn $24 million on his fifth-year option.
Pro Football Talk writes that Parsons is expected to get more than the $40.25 million per year received by Bengals wideout Ja’Marr Chase this offseason, which would make him the highest-paid non-QB in the NFL.

PFT goes on to say that Parsons is “unlikely” to show up for training camp without a new deal.
Dallas did this with CeeDee Lamb last year, and he didn’t show up to training camp at all before his new four-year, $136 million contract was agreed upon.
Will the Cowboys move faster this time? Not if Jones isn’t even talking to Parsons.
