Falcons predicted to cut ties with $32 million former first-rounder in trade to Jets, Giants, or Eagles

The offseason could still hold surprises for the Atlanta Falcons. With training camp just weeks away, the roster could see significant changes before players hit the field in July.

Of course, the lingering question remains: will Kirk Cousins be traded? While that scenario appears unlikely at this point due to a lack of viable suitors, one injury around the league could change everything.

But Cousins isn’t the only name swirling in trade speculation. Tight end Kyle Pitts has also emerged as a potential trade candidate. Atlanta hasn’t shopped him outright, but the team has reportedly been open to listening.

“But it appears, talking to some other teams, they think Atlanta is at least open to the possibility and Pitts might be as well,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said. “I’m told he loves Atlanta, this is not a situation where he’s requesting a trade, but if he has a chance to go to maybe a better offense where he’s more featured…”

ESPN’s Aaron Schatz believes trading Pitts could be the final move Atlanta needs this offseason. He listed the Jets, Giants, and Eagles as potential landing spots.

“Pitts has never matched the heights of his 1,026-yard rookie season, nor has he matched expectations as the No. 4 overall pick,” Schatz wrote. “It’s very unlikely that the Falcons extend or re-sign him after the 2025 season, so perhaps the best thing is to get some value for him now and let him see what he can do with a change of scenery.

“The Jets might be an interesting landing spot for Pitts, as he could play next to rookie Mason Taylor in two-TE sets. The Giants could also use an upgrade at the position. Even the Eagles might be an interesting trade target, as Dallas Goedert is now 30 years old.”

Still, Pitts remains a key piece for second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr. as he steps into the starting role. Unless Atlanta is offered something significant in return, it might not be worth weakening Penix’s arsenal before his full transition into the offense.
