The 2025 NHL Draft is rapidly approaching with the 1st round taking place this Friday. Speculation is ramping up on what the teams at the top of the order are going to do and how that will impact the draft as a whole.
Smoke is gathering particularly on what the San Jose Sharks will do with pick number 2 in the draft. The general consensus opinion from scouts and the like have agreed that Michael Misa is the most likely option for San Jose. This is assuming projected top pick Matthew Schaefer goes first overall to the New York Islanders. Most pundits believe Misa is the best forward in this draft class, making him the logical pick at 2.
However, Misa going 2 does not appear to be a dead lock. Cam Robinson has reported that fellow forward Anton Frondell is unlikely to be available past 3. That could mean he is taken by the Chicago Blackhawks with the 3rd pick. Or it could mean the Sharks take him with the surprise pick at 2. Various reputable sources such as Elliotte Friedman and Chris Peters have suggested the Sharks could be looking at Frondell with the 2nd pick.
The team that would love this outcome more than any other is the Chicago Blackhawks who are known to be coveting Misa. GM Kyle Davidson may very well sprint to the podium if he is there for the taking at 3.
Of course this time of year one hears a lot of rumors. This Frondell to San Jose train could be a smokescreen. Or it could be legit, we will find out. Either way, it appears San Jose will dictate what direction this draft goes on Friday.
