Vegas makes $2 million decision on core piece in NHL offseason

The Vegas Golden Knights have reportedly resigned forward Reilly Smith to a 1 year $2 million contract today. The deal includes a no-trade clause.

The 2023 Stanley Cup Champion with the Vegas Golden Knights is in the midst of his second stint with the club. He was a part of the original expansion team until he was dealt to Pittsburgh in the same offseason they won Lord Stanley. The Knights brought him back last year at the trade deadline from the New York Rangers. The 34 year old combined for 13 goals and 27 assists in 79 games between the 2 squads last season. He recorded 3 goals and 1 assist in 11 games during Vegas’ playoff run, in which the club was ousted in the 2nd round by the eventual Stanley Cup finalist Edmonton Oilers.

Next season, Reilly Smith will be entering his 8th season with the Vegas Golden Knights. He has asserted himself as an integral core member of this team having registered totals of 127 goals and 170 assists in his 420 career games with the franchise. He ranks 5th in the teams entire history in point production.

Smith will be expected to help keep Vegas in contention as they continue to ramp up their offseason moves in an effort to return the Cup to Vegas. He is one of only 4 players (Shea Theodore, Brayden McNabb and William Karlsson) who remain from the inaugural Knights “misfits” squad. Reilly Smith is the only member of that core to have been traded and later reacquired.
