Liam Delap reveals the reason why he joined Chelsea

Liam Delap has made an instant impact since joining Chelsea from Ipswich Town earlier this month.

On his debut, he set up Enzo Fernandez for a goal in Chelsea’s opening Club World Cup fixture, and now, two games later, he has opened his account for the Blues by scoring against ES Tunis.

The 22-year-old forward has received rave reviews from around the world for his performances for Chelsea so far, and now he has revealed the reason why he joined the Stamford Bridge club.

Speaking after the game against ES Tunis, the BBC quoted Delap as saying, “It’s an incredible feeling. I came here to get goals so to get the first one over and done with is a great feeling.”

“It was a great pass from Enzo but luckily it went in. Yes, I think it it is a little bit of relief, not relief but an extra bit of confidence, when coming to a place like this you need confidence and belief.”

“It’s right up there [with my favourite goals] and it means a lot to me. Obviously, this tournament has helped me settle in because back at the training ground, everyone disappears at 3 pm, but here we are together all the time, and it has helped me settle in.”

“I know the manager really well, so hopefully I can continue growing.”

Delap is known for his aggression on the pitch, but added that he was aware of the importance of not picking up a second yellow in the competition which would have led to a suspension.

“I tried not to get a yellow card because I would be suspended for the next game,” he added. “We’ve got to focus on Benfica and go there fighting to get to the next round. I came to this club to play on big stages like this.”

Delap has made the best possible start to life at Chelsea and fans will be hoping that he can continue his golden form for the rest of the Club World Cup and into the new Premier League season.
