A Tigers starting hitter is getting recognition for his performance through the first half of the season.
In a Bleacher Report article from Kerry Miller, Miller named Tigers catcher Dillon DIngler as the most improved player on Detroit’s roster.
“Between 2023 and 2024, Dingler hit 33 home runs in 160 minor league games played. But in his 27-game cup of coffee in the majors last season, he managed just one home run, batting .167 with a .505 OPS. With Jake Rogers getting hurt barely a week into the season, though, it was Dingler to the rescue with a year-to-date .730 OPS that makes last year’s rough debut a distant memory,” Miller wrote.
In 61 games played this season, Dingler is hitting .272 with eight home runs and 34 RBIs. Dingler has also come up big a few times throughout this season, with last night being one example.
In a game where Tigers star pitcher Tarik Skubal had an outing that was not like what fans are used to seeing, it was Dillon Dingler who broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the third with a three-run home run that gave Detroit a 7-4 lead and what was eventually the game-winning hit.
In fact, Dingler’s performance for the Tigers has been so good that he has overtaken Jake Rogers for the starting spot at catcher most nights. If Dingler continues his performance into the second half of the season, it not only gives Detroit a defensive weapon late in the year, but another hitting threat for teams to worry about.
