The Argentinian star will face his former club in Atlanta in one of the biggest matches of the season. Not only is advancement on the line, but bragging rights, status and glory.
Miami narrowly secured its spot in the knockouts with a draw against Palmeiras in its final group stage. The finish was enough to earn a Group A runner-up result. PSG, on the other hand, finished first in Group B despite a three-way tie in the standings with Botafogo and Atlético Madrid.
There’s a lot riding on this match for Messi himself. He notably did not enjoy his two seasons in Paris, so he’ll certainly play angry. But he will also face Luis Enrique, the PSG manager who also spent time with Messi at Barcelona.
