Jake Paul has turned himself into a sideshow act to the main event as a boxer. Now, the social media star is on the cusp of actually finding himself ranked by major governing bodies the WBC and WBA.
Paul returns to the ring this Saturday night live on DAZN pay-per-view against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The bout headlines the event from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
According to legend Oscar De La Hoya, he believes Paul “can win a world title.”
“It’s obviously gonna take time,” he said. “Let’s say he knocks out Chavez Jr. in the later rounds. It’ll be a huge confidence boost for Jake Paul. It’ll silence a lot of doubters. That next challenge is possibly a Top 10 in the world.”

Boxing Kingdom posted on X that Paul will receive a ranking by the WBC and WBA with a victory over Chavez Jr. and that would be the start to a “potential run for a world title shot, over the next two years.”
The 28-year-old Paul last competed in November 2024 when he earned a decision victory over former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. Overall, he is 11-1 with five consecutive wins to his credit.
Paul’s only loss was in 2023 to Tommy Fury by split decision after starting his career with six consecutive victories highlighted by a win over former UFC champions Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley.
The bout with Chavez will take place at cruiserweight and be contested over 10 rounds. Chavez, who is 39 years old, held the WBC middleweight title and is the son of former three-division champion Julio Cesar Chavez.
Chavez ended what was nearly a three-year hiatus from competition when he scored a win over former UFC fighter Uriah Hall in July 2024. He is 54-6-1 overall and has fought Canelo Alvarez.
