Could Dodgers trade for Twins superstar Carlos Correa? MLB analyst makes case

The Rafael Devers trade has the Major League Baseball world on edge.

Could another superstar be traded this season? The San Francisco Giants got Devers, so they probably got the biggest prize. But the Los Angeles Dodgers might not be willing to sit on their hands and let the Giants have all the fun.

Devers was traded from the Boston Red Sox to the Giants in part because there was a rift in Boston, but also because the Red Sox wanted out of his contract. There are other contracts around the league that teams might like to get out of, too.

Just Baseball’s Peter Appel came up with a hypothetical in which the Dodgers could pull off a trade of similar magnitude to the Devers deal. He proposed that the Minnesota Twins might be willing to part ways with shortstop Carlos Correa, who is owed a little over $128 million over the next 3 1/2 years.

“Could Correa be a player that the Dodgers at least call (about)?” Appel mused. “I don’t know if the Twins would do it, I don’t know what a package would look like, but if the Twins start to falter a little bit, that’s a dude.

“You bring him to LA with his postseason pedigree to compete with the Giants, who just brought over (Rafael) Devers. Oh no, they might actually do it, will they? Oh no.”

Correa, 30, has a .680 OPS this season in 66 games. It’s a huge drop-off from his .905 figure last season, but his health was the bigger concern coming into the year. Still, no one would be surprised if he went to Los Angeles and was once again a superstar, especially in October.

There’s also the question of whether Dodgers fans, who despise Correa for being the vocal leader of the 2017 Houston Astros (perhaps you remember the cheating scandal?) could ever forgive him after he beat the Dodgers in that year’s World Series.

However, if time heals all wounds, it’s interesting in theory, because there’s no doubt the Twins would love to shed some money. This might be the only way they can shed a significant amount.
