The Dallas Cowboys made multiple additions to their running back room in the offseason. However, they could add another running back to the mix through a trade.
The Cowboys signed Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, but also drafted Jaydon Blue. However, Williams and Sanders both struggled last season and may not actually be great options for the Cowboys, who had one of the worst rushing attacks in the NFL last season. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox proposed the idea of the Cowboys trading for Najee Harris.
The Cowboys trading for Harris is highly unlikely. Harris just signed with the Chargers on a one-year, $.2 million deal. If the Cowboys really wanted him, they would’ve signed him during his free agency. The only reason the Chargers would even consider trading him is the arrival of rookie running back Omarion Hampton.
The Chargers likely did not know they were going to land Hampton in the NFL Draft, but they probably knew they wanted to target a running back at some point. Hampton was their first-round pick and figures to see a heavy workload. However, Harris will still be a valuable player as Hampton learns the ins and outs of the NFL.
The Cowboys will likely have a competition in camp to see who their lead back will be, and Blue has a strong chance to win the job. The Cowboys already have two veterans in Sanders and Williams to help him out, so Harris would not be of much value to them.

On the other hand, Harris is a better veteran option than both of the Cowboys’ current options. Harris has been a 1,000-yard rusher every season of his NFL career. However, the Cowboys will likely not make any more additions to their running back room, barring some injuries.
