Flames’ Rasmus Andersson on verge of trade to Eastern Conference team

Rasmus Andersson may not have many days left in Calgary.

The Flames are reportedly shopping him, according to both Sportsnet and The Fourth Period.

The 28-year old Andersson is entering the final year of his contract, and Sportsnet’s Elliotte Firedman wrote that the defenseman “is ready for something new.”

Andersson has six teams on a no-trade list in his contract, which complicates proceedings slightly.

The Fourth Period goes on to write that Ottawa, Carolina and Columbus would be interested in pursuing a trade for Andersson.

The 6-foot-1 Swedish D-man is coming off a 31-point season (11 goals, 20 assists) in 81 games played for the Flames.

For his career, Andersson has 231 points in 536 games, mostly from his 184 assists along with 47 goals.

He tied his career-high in 2024-25 with his 11 goals.

Andersson has spent all nine of his NHL seasons with the Flames. He was chosen 53rd overall in the 2015 draft by Calgary.

The reliable defenseman has averaged 22:40 or more minutes per game in each of the past four seasons. He also has blocked at least 125 shots in each of those seasons, too.

An acquiring team would have to decide what to do about Andersson’s contract that expires after the 2025-26 season, but even if he’s only a one-year rental, he’d be a good pickup for pretty much any team in the NHL that can get a deal done.
