Bayern Munich are exploring a move for Gabriel Martinelli but any approach is expected to be rebuffed by Arsenal, Sporting News understands.
The 23-year-old has developed into a key figure for Mikel Arteta’s side and is widely viewed as one of the club’s most important attacking players.
Since joining the Gunners from Ituano in 2019, Martinelli has made 225 appearances, scoring 51 goals and providing 29 assists across all competitions.
As well as Bayern Munich, Spanish champions Barcelona are also keeping close tabs on the player. Sources indicate that Martinelli is one of several names on a shortlist drawn up by Barca, who are looking to strengthen their forward line ahead of the new season.
Barcelona are prepared to explore a move for the Brazilian if they fail to land either Liverpool’s Luis Diaz or Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, two players whose futures remain uncertain due to contract and financial issues at their respective clubs.
Martinelli signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal last year, committing his future to the Emirates until 2027, with an option for an additional year.

Arteta’s side have no intention of letting the winger leave and would demand a fee in excess of £50 million ($67m) from any club hoping to test their resolve.
He’s viewed as an important part of Arteta’s project, and the club are instead focused on strengthening the squad in key areas this summer.
What is the latest on Thomas Partey’s future?
Meanwhile, Arsenal are preparing for a number of outgoings, with Thomas Partey currently expected to leave.
The 31-year-old midfielder has hit a standstill in talks over a new contract, with no agreement reached.
Partey’s contract expires on June 30 and sources close to the player have told Sporting News that it is ‘likely’ he will be looking for a new club as things stand.
Martin Zubimendi’s move to Arsenal is set to be officially announced at the start of July, with the delay linked to Real Sociedad’s preference to keep the sale out of their 2024/25 financial year.
Arsenal will pay €65 million for the midfielder – slightly above his release clause – with the fee structured across three instalments.
Zubimendi is also expected to wear the number 36 shirt.
