Atletico Madrid face Botafogo on matchday three of the Club World Cup as Group B concludes on Monday.
Diego Simeone’s side responded to a disheartening 4-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in their opening game by beating Seattle Sounders 3-1 on matchday two. They would have anticipated this being a straight shootout for the Round of 16, but Botafogo’s shock win over the European champions means the odds are now stacked against the Spaniards.
Assuming PSG defeat Seattle in their final group game, Atleti must win against last year’s Copa Libertadores champions by a margin of between three and six goals. A draw would only be enough to go through if the MLS side produce a monumental shock and beat Les Parisiens.
Botafogo know they have a foot in the next phase and will be confident of doing what is needed to go through, especially with Brazilian sides having so far performed superbly across the tournament.

Atletico will have Clement Lenglet back from suspension following his red card on the opening matchday. He could come in for Jose Maria Gimenez, who suffered an injury against Seattle.
Pablo Barrios‘ two goals last time out mean he will likely keep his place on the left of midfield. Simeone could consider partnering Rodrigo De Paul with Conor Gallagher to add some bite to midfield.
The coach will have to choose whether to restore Antoine Griezmann to the first XI, having dropped the experienced French star on matchday two. It feels more likely that Alexander Sorloth will partner Julian Alvarez in attack, though.

With Botafogo in pole position to go through, it seems unlikely coach Renato Paiva will make many — if any — changes from the win over PSG.
Igor Jesus has two goals in as many games and will lead the line against Atleti. Influential midfielder Gregore will need to walk the disciplinary tightrope carefully.
Botafogo predicted lineup (4-3-3, right to left): John (GK) — Vitinho, Cunha, Barboza, Telles — Allan, Gregore, Freitas — Artur, Jesus, Savarino
Injured: None
Suspended: None
Yellow card away from suspension: Gregore, Correa, Barboza

Atletico Madrid vs. Botafogo score prediction
The pressure is on Atleti to chase the game and rack up a big scoreline. While that sounds anathema to Simeone in knockout competition, they did finish the league season scoring three or more goals in five of their final eight games, so they have reason to believe they can pull off a huge result.
Botafogo did well to shut down PSG’s attack, though, and they will likely be happy to invite Atleti onto them and pick them off on the break. Goals should be expected, but not in the quantity Los Colchoneros need.
Predicted score: Atletico Madrid 2-2 Botafogo
