The NFL is in a dead period when it comes to on-field activity, but that doesn’t mean teams aren’t working the phones in pursuit of potential deals. The Miami Dolphins have been doing just that for the past couple of months, actively trying to move veteran cornerback Jalen Ramsey following a major falling out.
They may have to wait a bit longer — likely closer to the start of training camp — at least according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“Jalen Ramsey will get traded. It’ll be, I would expect before the start of training camp. We’ll see how it shakes out, where he goes,” Schefter said.
The biggest obstacle in completing a deal has been Miami’s refusal to absorb any of Ramsey’s guaranteed money — a sticking point that’s stalled negotiations.
“The Dolphins appear unwilling to take on any of Jalen Ramsey’s guaranteed money to facilitate a trade. Teams are very interested in trading for Ramsey, but don’t want to take on his full contract. This is the current hold up,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported.
Aware that they’ll likely be parting ways with Ramsey, the Dolphins have already begun searching for his replacement. Meanwhile, a new trade destination could be emerging. According to Steelers Wire’s Andrew Vasquez, Pittsburgh might be preparing to make a move that could help build one of the league’s most dangerous defenses.

“In addition to Miami potentially eating some of his contract, the Steelers could theoretically acquire Ramsey for a fourth- or fifth-round draft pick — potentially creating the most dangerous secondary in the NFL with cornerbacks Joey Porter Jr. and Darius Slay Jr., as well as safeties Minkah Fitzpatrick and DeShon Elliott,” Vasquez wrote.
Acquiring a player like Ramsey would be a massive win for the Steelers, who appear to be going all-in this season — especially with the uncertainty surrounding quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ future. Adding Ramsey could elevate Pittsburgh to legitimate Super Bowl contention — maybe even make them a favorite.
