Real Madrid vs. Pachuca predicted starting lineups, team news, score prediction: Will Mbappe return for Club World Cup clash?

Real Madrid face Pachuca after enduring a false start to their FIFA Club World Cup campaign.

Xabi Alonso saw his team held to a 1-1 draw in his first game as Los Blancos boss against Al Hilal, with Federico Valverde seeing a late penalty saved.

Mexican outfit Pachuca need a positive result to keep their hopes alive.

The 2024 CONCACAF Champions League winners were left to rue missed chances as they suffered a 2-1 opening loss to Red Bull Salzburg.

Real Madrid vs. Pachuca starting lineups, team news

Kylian Mbappe was hospitalised by a bout of gastroenteritis and missed the Al Hilal match. He has since been discharged but will not feature against Pachuca. Alonso is “optimistic” the Mbappe will be ready to face Salzburg.

Gonzalo Garcia started and scored in the France star’s absence last time out and is in line for another chance at centre-forward.

The 21-year-old striker got his opportunity because Endrick, the usual cover for Mbappe, did not travel due to a hamstring injury and remains sidelined as part of a weighty absentee list that became familiar to Madridistas over the course of last season. However, Antonio Rudiger is fit to play a part after his knee injury and could replace Raul Asencio.

Trent Alexander-Arnold endured a tough debut against Al Hilal but is likely to continue, especially with Dani Carvajal (knee) still out.

Real Madrid predicted starting lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Courtois (GK) — Alexander-Arnold, Rudiger, Huijsen, F. Garcia — Valverde, Tchouameni, Bellingham — Rodrygo, G. Garcia, Vinicius Jr.

Injured:  Alaba (knee), Camavinga (adductor), Endrick (hamstring), Dani Carvajal (knee), Militao (knee), Mendy (thigh), Rudiger (knee), Mbappe (illness)
Suspended: None

Pachuca boss Jaime Lozano could be tempted to go with an unchanged side, given his team largely impressed against Salzburg.

Experienced striker Salomon Rondon was a typical handful against the Austrians and will have his sights on a Madrid defence that looked vulnerable at times in their opening game.

Now 35, Venezuela international Rondon scored 17 times for Pachuca during the 2024/25 campaign.

Pachuca predicted starting lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Moreno (GK) — Rodriguez, Bauermann, Pereira, Gonzalez — Montiel, Pedraza, Palavecino — Dominguez, Rondon, Kenedy

Real Madrid vs. Pachuca score prediction

Even allowing for their teething problems in Alonso’s first game in charge against a star-studded Al Hilal, Madrid should have won that one.

They can avoid any of their opening game drama and ease to a controlled, routine victory over their Mexican foes.

Prediction: Real Madrid 2-0 Pachuca
