Longest MLB scoreless streaks: How Yankees’ 30 consecutive shutout innings compare to all-time records

The Yankees have been one of the best offensive teams in baseball during the first half of the 2025 season, but they’ve looked far from formidable in their last three games.

New York was shut out in three straight contests and didn’t score in 30 consecutive innings, up until Wednesday’s matchup against the Angels. The team finally put the cold spell to rest in the second inning of the game vs. Los Angeles.

While it’s been nearly 60 years since the 1968 Cubs set the Major League record for most consecutive scoreless innings (48), the Yankees’ recent streak began to approach their own franchise record.

Here’s a look at the Yankees scoreless innings streak that came to an end on Wednesday.

Yankees consecutive scoreless innings

The Yankees went 30 consecutive innings without scoring, dating back to Sunday’s 2-0 loss to the Red Sox. Despite boasting an offense that is tied for third in runs per game, New York was shoutout in three straight contests for the first time since 2016.

In the second inning of Wednesday’s game, a Jazz Chisholm home run finally ended the cold streak for their offense at 30 innings.

The Yankees reportedly met as a team on Tuesday night to try to come up with a plan to break out of their collective slump. Outfielder Cody Bellinger summarized the prevailing message of the meeting yesterday.

“Remembering who we are and continuing to stick with our approach,” Bellinger said.

Longest MLB scoreless streak record

The longest streak of consecutive scoreless innings in MLB history is 48, which was set by the 1968 Cubs and 1906 Philadelphia Athletics. The Yankees would have needed to be shutout at least two more times to approach that milestone.

By scoring Wednesday, the Yankees assured that they would not pass the Reds for the most consecutive scoreless innings of the 2025 season. Cincinnati lost three straight 1-0 games to start the season and were shutout for 35 consecutive innings.

Most consecutive scoreless innings by team

The most consecutive scoreless innings by a team is 48, which last occurred in 1968. The Cubs tied the mark that had been set by the 1906 Philadelphia Athletics.
