Maikel Garcia’s stats are way better than you might think during incredible streak

Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia is absolutely on fire. On the same squad with Bobby Witt and Salvador Perez, Garcia is the one making a name for himself as of late.

In the 6-3 win on Wednesday, Garcia picked up another three hits for Kansas City. They were not just hits, as two of them were extra-base hits. After flying out in the first inning, Garcia clubbed a three-run home run in the third inning to put the Royals on top. Then, with Bobby Witt on via a leadoff walk, Garcia tripled to right, driving Witt in.

He finished the game with four runs batted in and his team-leading batting average is now up to .318 on the season. That places him fifth in the American League behind Aaron Judge, Jacob Wilson, Jonathan Aranda, and Jose Ramirez. He also has a career-high 18 home runs on the season.

That is now 10 hits over the last five games for Garcia. That is 10-for-19, with two doubles, a triple, a long ball and five RBI.

It has been nice to see for the Royals, who have needed all the help they can get offensively. The Royals are 14th in team batting average at .249 on the season but have had a power outage, ranking last in home runs hit in the American League. Kansas City has 50 as a team, while the White Sox have 55.

Garcia was signed as an international free agent in 2016. He remained in the organization and finally made his debut in July of 2022. Over the last two seasons, he has had a full-time opportunity for Kansas City. In 2023, he hit .272 but had just four home runs. Last year, his power went up slightly, with seven home runs, but his average dropped to .231.

The Royals and Rangers are set to finish their series on Thursday afternoon. Kansas City then heads out west and will start a three-game weekend series at the Padres.
