Newcastle United’s transfer pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo appears to have hit a wall, with the Brentford star setting his sights on European football elsewhere and a possible reunion with Thomas Frank at Tottenham Hotspur.
Mbeumo had been on the Magpies’ radar for months, with scouts watching him closely since January, as reported by the Chronicle Live.
The Cameroon international’s consistent Premier League form had made him a prime candidate to support Newcastle’s UEFA Champions League campaign for 2025/26.
According to reports, Newcastle were ready to offer more than £50m [$68m] for the Bees forward. However, the deal unravelled after Mbeumo’s wage demands, believed to be over £200,000/$272,000 per week, clashed with Newcastle’s wage structure.
Manchester United have also expressed an interest in the 25-year-old, but Tottenham appear to be leading the race, thanks to the arrival of Mbeumo’s former Brentford boss.
“It’s been my best season so far in the Premier League,” Mbeumo told Sky Sports.

“Collectively, I think we played very good games. I think we’ve been unlucky in chasing a European spot, but I think it’s been a fantastic season.”
Spurs reunion tempting as Frank’s influence grows
The Brentford attacker has a deep admiration for Frank, who played a crucial role in his development on thee other side of London.
“He’s done so much for me. He literally trusted me from the start. I think he developed the team so well.
“He developed me as a human and as a player. I wish him all the best and I’m sure he’s going to do well.
“He knows where he wants to bring the team and how he wants to play. He’s been fantastic for Brentford. He knows how to talk to people. He knows how to build a group and that’s why we’ve been playing so well.”
Despite Newcastle’s intention to strengthen their attack, it now looks unlikely that will be via Mbeumo, as Eddie Howe looks for an alterative to talisman Alexander Isak.
Mbeumo’s agent is understood to be firm over his wage demands, something Newcastle are not willing to match, but could be agreed on with Spurs.
