Mavericks trade pitch lands $50 million All-Star in Dallas

The Dallas Mavericks are one of the most intriguing teams this offseason, and they could make some big moves.

Since trading away Luka Doncic in the middle of the season, there seems to be nothing off the table for Nico Harrison and the Mavericks. While it appears the team will at least enter next season built around the frontcourt of Cooper Flagg and Anthony Davis, everything else is still up in the air.

All signs also point to Kyrie Irving staying in Dallas on a restructured deal after tearing his ACL in March. While that gives Dallas a three-man wrecking crew when healthy, the Mavericks will have to navigate months of next season without Irving on the floor.

Most have projected the Mavericks as a team in the market for another point guard to take over while Irving recovers. However, there is another route that Dallas could go.

If the Mavericks want to add someone to not only replace Irving’s scoring production but also be able to fit in well with Irving on the floor, the answer could be another veteran star. As theorized by The Smoking Cuban’s Josh Cornelissen, the Mavericks’ perfect fit this offseason could be DeMar DeRozan.

Although it sounds insane at first, a deal sending Klay Thompson and Naji Marshall to Sacramento could easily make the money work and give both sides a fair deal. At 36 years old to begin next season, DeRozan might not be as intriguing a player as he was just a couple of seasons ago, but his value on a team like Dallas could be immeasurable, especially as Irving works his way back on the court.
