Will Scottie Scheffler miss U.S. Open cut? Updated scorecard as world No. 1 struggles at Oakmont

When you are the top player in the world in a given sport, you always have a huge target on your back with lofty expectations. When a highly-ranked player underperforms or appears more human with a rare bad day or round, it carries more weight because of their high ranking.

We have heard all week about how tough the 2025 U.S. Open was going to be. It is being held at Oakmont Country Club outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which is already a tough course. Then it went viral how high the second cut of rough was, and all week, golfers were saying, based on their practice round scores, that it was going to be a tough weekend.

Scheffler, coming off a win at the PGA Championship, struggled in his first round, posting a 3-over 73. The second round started on a high note with a birdie on his first hole and then four straight pars. But then Scheffler couldn’t get away from some bogeys, and now he is riding the projected cut line.

U.S. Open cut line 2025

The cut line will fluctuate throughout the day. The U.S. Open aims to reduce the field to the low 60s, so the cut line will be the score that brings players close. Only the top 60 players and ties will continue for the final two rounds of the 2025 U.S. Open. Currently, the cut line is projected to be 5-over.
