Newcastle United star’s future uncertain as two-time Champions League winners maintain interest

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali is once again at the center of major transfer speculation, with Juventus pushing hard to bring the Italian international back to Serie A.

The 24-year-old joined Newcastle for around £60 million in 2023 from AC Milan, but he faced a turbulent first season, which saw him banned for 10 months for breaching gambling rules in Italy.

But since August last year, Tonali has returned to full team involvement and is a key part of Eddie Howe’s midfield plans for the 2025/26 season.

Still, reports from Italy won’t stop. According to Tuttomercatoweb, former Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli included Tonali on a three-man shortlist, alongside Victor Osimhen and Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Massimo Brambati, an Italian pundit, confirmed that Giuntoli intended to pursue all three once financial conditions were satisfied.

Juventus gives bait, Newcastle stand firm

Juventus, two-time UEFA Champions League winners (1985, 1996), are reportedly considering a deal that could include former Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz. But given Tonali’s importance to the Magpies, it is not going to be easy.

Tonali, speaking to Sky Sport Italia, addressed the rumors last week: “I’m happy where I am. I’ve found people who care about me.” While he admitted he sometimes misses Italy, he emphasized he has no desire to leave.
