Chelsea are actively on the lookout for a new left winger and have been strongly linked with the likes of Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund and Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United in the first transfer window.
While Gittens remains the club’s top priority, the Blues have also kept Garnacho as a backup should they not be able to agree on a deal for the Englishman.
Enzo Maresca’s team had two bids rejected for Gittens before they flew out for the FIFA Club World Cup, meaning they will have to revisit this deal later in the window.
However, if they fail to agree on a deal for Gittens later in the window, it is being reported that they might turn their attention to Nico Williams.

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to meet Williams’ release clause, and journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that the club could look to make a serious move for him should they decide to walk away from a potential Gittens deal.
He said to the Kings of the Bridge Playback: “Chelsea will continue talks over Gittens until the end of the month in hopes of reaching an agreement. Garnacho and Williams are on the list if Chelsea decide to walk away.”
Barcelona are not currently pursuing a move for Williams, with them previously seen as the player’s dream destination should he leave his hometown club.
