According to The Athletic’s transfer journalist David Orenstein, Manchester City are closing in on an agreement to sign Rosenborg wonderkid Sverre Nypan.
In January, Nypan visited several clubs across Europe, primarily in England, and it was thought that he would choose his next side.
Despite the attempts of Arsenal and City Football Group’s Girona, he opted to wait until the summer before making a decision. This allowed Aston Villa to swoop in and make significant progress towards signing him.
Though it was initially believed that Nypan was set for a summer move to Villa Park, this no longer appears to be the case.
However, his future has now taken another twist with City closing in on his coveted signature.
While there are no details on the technicalities of the deal with Rosenberg, he does disclose that it is expected to be a record deal for the Norwegian top flight.

Nypan is not expected to be part of Pep Guardiola’s squad in the upcoming season. Instead, he will go out on loan to continue his development in an environment where he is guaranteed to get regular minutes.
This is where City Football Group’s Girona comes into the picture. They can get their hands on Nypan as he searches for regular game time in order to continue his development.
What kind of player is Sverre Nypan, and what does he bring to the table?
Nypan has established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting talents in recent seasons as he has been playing regular senior football for Rosenborg since age 16.
He has already made 70 first-team appearances in which he has chipped in with 14 goals and 11 assists from midfield. His all-action style and attacking output have seen him earn comparisons to compatriot Martin Odegaard.
