Argentine wonderkid snubs PSG and closes in on a move to Real Madrid

Real Madrid are looking for an overhaul in this summer transfer window with the appointment of Xabi Alonso at the helm. Los Blancos have already identified some of their next generation stars with the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen in defence. 

Alonso is keen on reinforcing younger players who could led the next decade at the Spanish capital. The next player in line is River Plate’s Franco Mastantuono, who has agreed terms to join Real Madrid as reported by Fabrizio Romano. 

The Argentine playmaker has attracted a lot of limelight due to his exceptional technical ability, vision and passing ranger. The 17-year-old is going viral on social media courtesy of his silky dribbling and ball retention skills.

As per reports, Real Madrid will pay a €45 million fee however the structure of the payment is yet to be decided by both clubs. The youngster will reportedly sign a six-year contract with Los Blancos. 

Apart from Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain were also interested in the Argentine playmaker. However as per ESPN, Madrid representatives flew to Buenos Aires to wrap up the deal as soon as possible. 

Mastantuono also wanted a move to the Spanish capital as his representatives put PSG talks on hold, which were actually at an advanced stage. He wanted Madrid to push through as the Spanish giants have been monitoring him for a few years now.

When will Mastantuono join Real Madrid?

At this point, Real Madrid and River Plate are working on the final details of the payment structure which includes the form of payment, but it is not believed to be a major obstacle in the way of the player moving to Santiago Bernabeu.

Mastantuono, who will turn 18 in August, will join Real Madrid in the same month. The Argentine sensation will represent River Plate in the Club World Cup in United States, starting later this month. This was Mastantuono’s decision to ease his departure from his childhood club.

The young Argentine is thought to be a long-term midfield solution at Santiago Bernabeu. His exceptional vision, passing range and ability to score goals from set pieces make him a very valuable proposition for Los Blancos.

Recently, he received his first international callup from Lionel Scaloni for the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Chile and Columbia. Interestingly, he scripted history by becoming the youngest player to debut for Argentina as Los Albiceleste won 1-0 over Chile.
