Keyshawn Davis hopes June 7 will be a homecoming to remember when he defends the WBO lightweight title against Edwin De Los Santos. The fight at the Scope Arena in Virginia airs on Fubo and ESPN+.
A 2020 Olympic silver medalist, Davis (13-0) won 12 fights before beating Denys Berinchyk in February for the WBO title in just four rounds. It was a return to glory for Davis after a win got overturned following a positive marijuana test.
De Los Santos (16-2) last fought in 2023, losing against Shakur Stevenson for the WBC title. He hopes his second attempt at gold is more successful. Winning via knockout number 15 is what he’s manifesting.
“If I connect, I don’t think the fight will continue because it’ll end right there,” De Los Santos told Fight Hype via Boxing News 24.
Davis is a massive favorite, partially because De Los Santos returns for the first time since that 2023 fight. However, Davis isn’t dismissing him. If he doesn’t take De Los Santos out early, it could be an interesting contest.
“He’s not an old fighter,” Davis told The Ring. “He’s young. De Los Santos is very young. What I do expect is probably the first couple rounds he’ll be slow, get his feet under him. The arena’s gonna be packed… It’s gonna be a different environment from what his last fight was… But in terms of him being off and being slower, I don’t think that at all.”
Several members of the Davis family compete on the undercard, while prospects look to continue their momentum.
