The Toronto Blue Jays are playing much better baseball and are now right in the thick of the American League postseason chase.
At 31-28, they are 5 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees in the AL East and one game back of the Minnesota Twins in the Wild Card race.
Still, that hasn’t stopped speculation about potential trades. Bo Bichette is in the final year of his contract and appears unlikely to return to Toronto in 2026.
Jeff Passan believes that the Detroit Tigers could be a potential fit if Toronto chooses to trade him.
“After a homerless April, Bichette whacked seven home runs in May and slugged better than .500. The Tigers don’t need much. With their prospect depth, though, they can afford a luxury item,” Passan wrote.

Bichette is off to a strong start in 2025. In addition to his seven home runs this season, he is slashing .277/.325/.430 with 32 RBI, four stolen bases and a .754 OPS.
The two-time All-Star has been the subject of trade rumors since the offseason, when the Blue Jays hadn’t yet extended Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
The Tigers have plenty of prospects that the Blue Jays may want, as their farm system ranks among the top in Major League Baseball.
But if the Blue Jays continue to play well and remain in contention, then they might end up holding onto Bichette rather than trading him to another contender.
It will certainly be interesting to see what they decide to do, but what happens at the trade deadline will likely be dictated by how the team plays leading up to it.
We’ll see where the Blue Jays land.
