Dak Prescott is the Dallas Cowboys’ franchise quarterback.
They’re paying him an NFL record $60 million per year. He isn’t going anywhere.
That hasn’t stopped the never-ending speculation of social media to allow some corners of NFL analysis to suggest that Prescott could be gotten rid of by Dallas if he has a bad 2025 season.
But that simply makes no sense, so don’t believe those rumors.
If Prescott is released between the end of the 2025 season and June 1, 2026, his dead cap money will be $129,989,999.
That’s a lot.

The Cowboys have a lot of money, but there’s no value in them eating that much.
Interestingly, Prescott’s dead money drops to $55.9 million if released before the 2027 season, maybe a more manageable number if the circumstances call for it.
But for now, Prescott seems like he’ll have to be the starting quarterback for the next two years, minimum.

Some Cowboys fans are probably frustrated by Prescott’s injuries. Others can’t love his inability to make a deep playoff run.
But that stuff isn’t all on Prescott.
Should he be the highest-paid QB in the league? No, but that’s not his fault that he got the best deal.
And now that Prescott has that hefty contract, he won’t be going anywhere for at least a couple of seasons. Don’t believe everything you read out there.
