As the PGA Tour continues, Max Homa is working to qualify for the U.S. Open. The 34-year-old is standing out with more than just his play.
Homa had an impressive showing at the U.S. Open qualifier in Columbus, Ohio, especially because he carried his own bag throughout the event. While caddies flanked the other PGA Tour players, Homa did his version of double duty.

Did Max Homa qualify for the U.S. Open?
Homa did not qualify for the U.S. Open during the qualifier in Columbus.
There were six qualifying spots for the event, and Homa was in a five-way tie with Rickie Fowler, Eric Cole, Chase Johnson, and Cameron Young at 5-under par. Young secured the sixth and final spot with a 12-foot birdie in the playoff.
On the next hole, Homa lost a playoff for an alternate spot.
While he did not finish in the top six, Homa still has an outside shot at qualifying for the U.S. Open. He will compete in the Canadian Open this week and, with a win, would likely move into the top 60 and qualify for the U.S. Open, per AP’s Doug Ferguson.

Max Homa caddie
Homa and his caddie of two months, Bill Harke, are no longer working together.
During the qualifier, Homa had this to say on the situation: “I’d much rather talk about the golf instead of all the questions about the caddie. I’m good. Just hoofed it 36.”
He added, “I haven’t carried my bag 36 holes in a while, so I’m a little tired.”
Though Homa did not offer much about the split itself and indicated he’d rather talk about the golf than his caddie situation, he did make a comment that could be interpreted as a reason for the split.
“It seems to be better than when someone is standing next to me for some reason,” Homa said of his attitude during the qualifier.
“I might need to walk by myself more. Maybe I just looked at it as a nice, peaceful walk. Probably got to battle some demons and have no one to lean on. Maybe that helps a little bit. There’s no one … everything is me. The battle helped that a little bit.”
