Liverpool add two stars to Florian Writz offer to break Leverkusen transfer deadlock

Liverpool remain firmly in the hunt to secure a club transfer record deal to sign Florian Wirtz.

Germany international Wirtz is on course to join the growing squad exodus from Bayer Leverkusen after Xabi Alonso’s return to Real Madrid.

Jeremie Frimpong has already completed a move to Arne Slot’s Premier League champions as the Dutch coach looks to bolster his squad for the 2025/26 season.

Liverpool’s chances of bringing in Wirtz have been boosted by reports of Bayern Munich stepping out of race for Wirtz with club officials convinced he prefers a switch Anfield.

Negotiations are continuing to progress between Liverpool and Wirtz’s representatives with the 22-year-old reportedly looking for a house on Merseyside.

However, the two clubs still remain some distance apart in terms of the expected fee, and Liverpool are looking to structure payments to reduce their initial outlay.

The latest update from German outlet Kicker indicates Leverkusen could request one or two Reds stars to be included in the deal to break the deadlock at the BayArena.

Florian Wirtz’s Liverpool contract, salary, transfer fee

If Liverpool are to secure a deal for Wirtz, it will surpass their current transfer benchmark, which is the £72m [$98m] they paid Benfica for Darwin Nunez in 2022.

Leverkusen are confident of securing £100m [$135m] as part of an upfront fee with a further £25m [$34m] in performance-related add-ons split across his contract.

Liverpool are also ready to offer Wirtz a ‘long-term’ deal which is rumoured to be for at least five years until 2030.

Talks have stalled in recent days – after strong early progress – and Liverpool could now look to speed up the process by adding in two players on Leverkusen’s radar as part of Erik ten Hag’s own rebuild.

Harvey Elliott has been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool, due to a reduced role in 2024/25, and the England international could be added to the deal alongside Jarell Quansah.

Slot would prefer to just lose one of the pair, as part of an offer for Wirtz, with Elliott valued at £25m [$35m] and Quansah at £17m [$22m].
